Technical Project Manager

WHAT WE WANT: The Technical Project Manager helps to ensure the successful delivery of multiple, highly technical concurrent software platform, middleware, architecture and infrastructure projects. Primarily as a facilitator the TPM keeps everyone in the team on track by helping to solve problems and remove blockers in a professional, objective way. He/she often draws on a strong delivery background and experience in mentoring colleagues and implementing best practice techniques and continuous process improvements. The TPM must be able to cooperate with all team members, ranging from the Business Stakeholders, Software Architects, Developers, Quality Assurance, to Interface Designers and Business Analysts, whilst remaining objective regarding his/her own responsibilities and allowing the team sufficient self-management freedom to deliver against the requirements. The internal matrix structure will include product management, business and IT Operational units. The PM should be able to work in an Agile/Scrum development environment, and coordinate the repeated on-time delivery of sprints and be able to effectively communicate progress and status to the stakeholders.

YOUR ROLE: 
  • Manage software development Pod consisting of developers, QA, and business analyst to deliver software projects on time with the highest quality.  Part of the development team may be located in a different geographical location.
  • Work closely with the product development and architecture teams to understand requirements.
  • Ensure the tasks required to deliver projects are raised and allocated to the correct teams, such as the network teams, the server build teams, etc. and ensure timely delivery.
  • Facilitate estimations required by Business Analysts and validate these estimations based on historical performance and, over time, based on his/her experience working with the team.
  • Work with Product Managers and Business Analysts to optimize the deliverables in each sprint and ensure the estimates do not exceed the team’s velocity.
  • Work with build and change management to timely raise changes to the (production-) environments and to understand and mitigate the risk of deployments.
  • Work with other Project Managers to establish the planning and to ensure resources are scheduled according to the company’s overall program of priorities.
  • Establish and maintain a good rapport with the relevant (business-) stakeholders, frequently communicate e.g. progress of the deliverables and overall status.
  • Coach the team into adhering to the delivery process, which is founded on SCRUM principles. Actively participate in process review meetings.
  • Ensure key elements of the process, such as sprint kick-off meetings are held in an efficient and organized manner, focused on the desired outcome.
  • Ensure the resources allocated to delivering the requirements are adequate, raise resourcing issues as appropriate.
  • Facilitate team building, assist in conflict resolution and participate in career development and recruitment.
  • Vendor management as required, including preparation of RFPs, management of suppliers or subcontractors, management and negotiation of contracts.
ARE YOU READY TO MAKE STUFF HAPPEN?: 
  • 2+ years of project management experience working in a Product Development environment.
  • 5+ years of technical experience using a primarily Java based technology.
  • Exceptional communication (oral/written) skills. Strong English is a must-have.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects applying practical experience gained in a number of Formal and/or Agile project management methodologies.
  • An inquisitive nature, not easily overwhelmed, comfortable communicating in open forums with peers and senior staff alike, resourceful and with excellent negotiation skills.
  • Self-starter, firm but friendly character, able to obtain respect from colleagues and with a likeable manner to get the most out of people.

Assets:

  • Undergraduate degree: Computer Science, Electrical, Telecommunications, or Process Engineering.
  • Experience successfully working in an Agile / Scrum environment is a plus.
  • Formal Project Management certification is a plus.
  • Proficient with tools such as MS Project and issue tracking systems such as Jira.
